The challenge

A major TV network needed to quickly transport six cases of camera equipment from the U.S. to Canada for a prime-time reality television series. Time was tight, and they faced the challenge of temporary importation into Canada. The network needed to ship their high-value equipment into the country without incurring costly duties and taxes, while also complying with all customs regulations. Any delays could have seriously impacted the filming schedule.

The solution

Ascent provided an On-Board Courier (OBC) service, offering a time-critical and compliant solution. Due to the high value of the equipment, import fees into Canada would have been significant. To avoid these hefty costs, our team proposed utilizing an ATA Carnet, a document that allows goods to temporarily enter a country without duties, as long as they are exported within a specified timeframe.

 

Within an hour, Ascent completed the Carnet paperwork and secured approval for the temporary importation. The equipment was hand-carried by an Ascent courier, who ensured smooth transport across the Canadian border without any delays or customs issues.

The result

The equipment arrived at its location on time and in full compliance with the temporary importation rules. After the show’s filming concluded, Ascent was again utilized for the safe return of the equipment back to the U.S., adhering to the Carnet requirements and avoiding additional expenses.
